Short-Term Residence Permit is a residence permit valid for a maximum of 2 years, issued by the Immigration Administration to foreign nationals who wish to stay in Türkiye for more than 90 days. This permit is issued for foreigners who wish to stay in Türkiye for different purposes.
In what cases is a short-term residence permit granted?
Short-term residence permits may be issued for the following purposes:
Tourist stay
Buying real estate (house) in Türkiye
Commercial activity or business establishment
Conducting scientific research
Receiving Turkish language education (on condition of being enrolled in official courses)
Participation in non-university education, training or internship programs
Stay for health purposes (on condition that you cover your own expenses)
Parents of children studying in Türkiye (for accompaniment purposes)
Documents Required for Short-Term Residence Permit
1. Stay for Touristic Purposes
Who is it for? Foreigners who want to visit Türkiye or stay for a short time.

Hotel reservation or rental agreement
Bank statement for the last 3 months
Travel itinerary or short description
2. Commercial Activity / Starting a Business
Who is it for? Entrepreneurs who want to establish a company or business connections in Türkiye.

Company invitation (if applicable)
Chamber of Commerce registration
Tax certificate, signature circular, activity certificate
Proof of accommodation (hotel or rental agreement)
Letter of Intent
3. Scientific Research
Who is it for? Academicians and researchers who will conduct research in Türkiye through universities or official institutions.

4. Learning Turkish
For Whom? Official language courses in Türkiye

It can be extended a maximum of two times.
5. Stay for Health Purposes (Treatment)
Who is it for? Those who want to receive treatment in private hospitals or clinics in Turkey.

Proof of payment or sponsorship

6. Education, Course and Internship Programs (Non-University)
Who is it for? Foreigners who will participate in education or internship programs other than language courses .

7. Those Whose Family Relatives Are Students
For Whom? Parents of children who have a student residence permit in Türkiye.

Residence Permit Based on Housing Purchase
Buying a house is one of the important ways that grants foreigners the right to reside in Türkiye. The Directorate of Immigration Administration can grant short-term residence permits to foreigners who have purchased real estate.
Conditions
The title deed must be registered in the person's name.
The real estate must be residential (excluding land, fields and commercial areas).
The property must be used for living purposes.
Applications can also be made for spouses and children under the age of 18 from the same household.
Housing Purchase Process and Requirements
Citizens of every country cannot buy property in Türkiye.
There are restrictions for some countries such as Syria, Armenia, North Korea and Cuba.
For details, the “country-based acquisition map” of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre should be checked.

Lower Limits on Housing Prices
According to the current practice of the General Directorate of Migration Management and Land Registry:
In metropolitan cities (Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Antalya): At least 75,000 USD
In other cities: At least 50,000 USD
Note: These requirements should not be confused with the citizenship application. The minimum investment amount for citizenship is 400,000 USD .

Long Term Residence
What is a Long-Term Residence Permit?
A long-term residence permit is a type of permit that grants indefinite residence to foreign nationals who have lived in Türkiye for a certain period of time without interruption. This permit is issued by the Immigration Administration to foreigners who meet certain conditions and offers the opportunity to benefit from many of the rights granted to Turkish citizens.
What are the conditions for a long-term residence permit?
Foreigners who meet the following conditions can apply for a long-term residence permit in Türkiye:
Uninterrupted Residence
Having lived in Türkiye with a residence permit for at least 8 years without interruption.
Note: Half of the student residence permit period and the full duration of other residence permits are taken into account.
Not Receiving Social Assistance
Not having benefited from any social assistance provided by the state in Türkiye in the last 3 years.
Financial Adequacy
The applicant (and his/her family, if any) must have a regular and sufficient income to support themselves.
Valid Health Insurance
You must have an active health insurance that covers the duration of your stay in Türkiye.
Public Safety Charter
Not to pose any threat to public order and security.
Note: Refugees, conditional refugees, subsidiary protection status holders, humanitarian residence permit holders and persons under temporary protection cannot apply for a long-term residence permit.
How to Apply for Long-Term Residence?
1. Online Application
Application is made via e-ikamet system. Long-term residence permit form is filled and an appointment is made.
2. Appointment Day
On the specified date, an application is made in person to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration Administration of the province of residence with the necessary documents.
3. Application Evaluation
The application is finalized by the Immigration Administration within 90 days at the latest.

The following documents must be submitted in full during the application:
Long-term residence permit application form
Passport (or original and photocopy of the substitute document)
4 biometric photographs taken within the last 6 months
Valid health insurance policy
Official document showing that you do not receive social assistance
Declaration of sufficient and regular income
Criminal record
Receipts showing that the fee and document have been paid
Attention: Required documents may vary depending on the Immigration Administration Directorate of the province where the application is made. It is recommended to contact the relevant directorate for up-to-date information.
Rights Provided by Long-Term Residence Permit
Long-term residence permit holders can benefit from the following rights:
Exemption from military service
Benefit from many rights granted to Turkish citizens, except the right to enter public office and vote.
The right to be included in the social security system (subject to the provisions of special laws)
Benefiting from other rights other than vehicle import
Cancellation Cases of Long-Term Residence Permit
A long-term residence permit may be revoked in the following cases:
Creating a serious threat to public order or security
Staying outside Türkiye for more than one year without interruption, except for health, education or public services in the country of citizenship
Re-application for cancelled long-term residence permits:
It can be done through consulates abroad.
It can be done to the relevant governorships within the country.
